My Red Bandana- wordless Wednesday

Here is my red bandana. Mom says it's special because it identifies me as a Therapy Dog. I passed my Therapy Dog Test, submitted all my paperwork, and now I'm ready to work. Anyone need a hug?

Cover Dogs- Kelly and Ike Forever

And this month, I'm especially honored that my dogs Kelly and Ike are featured on the cover (July/August issue). Here's how it happened. A little more than 3 months ago we were preparing to say goodbye to Kelly. She was 16 years old, and had been suffering from CCD (Canine Cognitive Disorder) for quite some time. I'd written a story for All Creatures about how our 10 year old golden retriever, Ike, became her therapy dog and helped her navigate through this illness. Even more touching was that Kelly had always been the bossy one, but Ike never held it against her. He gently guided her when all her senses and cognitive functions failed. Happy Birthday Ike!

Today is a very special day! It's not often that we are able to know the exact date of birth of our rescue dogs, but Ike happened to come to us with his veterinary records when we adopted him two years ago. His name was Buddy when we adopted him, but to us he is Ike. We couldn't be happier or more blessed to share our home and our lives with this sweet, laid back, loving boy. He's 9 years old today (although all last year I thought he was already 9! Even with records, I get mixed up!)  Happy Birthday Ike! P.S. Julius K9 Harness, A Great Fit for Dogs

   When walking Pete and Ernest, we prefer to use harnesses. But there are so many different types, how do we know the best for our dogs? We once adopted an older dog who walked perfectly on a collar and leash, never pulled and was just as easy as pie...But he was the only easy one! The rest have been a challenge.
